Alamut is a historical city located in the Qazvin province. The city also has eye-catching natural sceneries.

Alamut is a vast area that is located northeast of Qazvin province. Alamut has divided Qazvin province into Alamut and Roudbar. The Alamut area lies on the slopes of the central Alborz Mountains and on the margin of the Great Shahroud Valley. This ancient and legendary area has witnessed many events throughout history. Alamut region was at its peak during Nizari Ismaili state, especially at Hassan-e Sabbah reign. Alamut has many tourist and nature attractions that we suggest you visit all of them.

  • Alamut attractions
    • Alamut Castle:

      Alamut Castle has played a significant role in the history of this region. The castle has been one of the principal Ismaili strongholds and their center of government for many years. The castle was built in the north of the Gazorkhan village in the year 226 AH by Hasan Ibn Zayd Alavi.
    • Lambsar Castle:

      Lambsar is located three kilometers northeast of the Razmian city. It is the strongest and largest castle in the Alamut area and dates back to pre-Islamic times.
      Alamut has other attractions besides the two castles, such as Nawizer Shah Castle, Shir Kuh Castle, Hassan Abad stone tomb and the Pich Bonn stone caravanserai. You can also find many natural attractions in this beautiful area.
    • Ovan Lake:

      Alamut has many natural attractions, but perhaps the most famous is the Ovan Lake. This lake is located seventy kilometers from Qazvin. Lake Ovan is located between the villages of Ovan, Varbon, Zavardasht, and Zarabad. In summer, the lake water is suitable for swimming and also this lake has pedal boats in temperate and warm seasons for guests.
      Alamut, besides the well-known Ovan Lake, has many ancient and natural springs and caves such as:
      Vali cave, Hajat Khaneh cave, Sefid Ab cave, Khar roud source water, and Niene Roud source water.

  • What is the best time to go?

Due to Qazvin is located the slopes of Alborz, the winters are relatively cold and snowy. Qazvin has a mild and relatively cool climate in summer. But the best season to travel to this area is, in the spring and the months of May and June.
 

 

  • Getting there?

The distance between Alamut and Tehran is about 202 km. You can reach Alamut in about four hours. You must go to the Sheikh Fazlullah highway and from there to the Tehran-Karaj road.
