Teymareh Petroglyphs

The Teymareh ancient rocks represent the old history of art and human life during the millennia. The mountainous areas and valleys surrounding Khomein and Golpayegan show some of the ancient habitats of Iran.

Teymareh is an ancient and rocky region in the city of Khomein, which holds 21,000 petroglyphs with amazing secrets. How the concepts and beliefs in different regions have been published in the ancient world and primitive life is a question that remains unanswered. These questions have attracted interested travelers and tourists to visit the mysterious petroglyphs of Teymareh in recent years. It is possible to hear the songs of the past humans in the heart of these petroglyphs of Teymareh and see the footsteps of the ancestors who once attempted to live.

The Teymareh is located at the intersection of the headwaters of the Anarbar River, between the cities of Mahallat, Khomein, and Golpayegan. These mysterious rock paintings or Petroglyph are located in three provinces of Markazi, Lorestan, and Isfahan. Since the focus of these rock paintings is in the Khomein (more than 21,000 items), known as Teymareh.

This area has one of the wonders of tourism, the oldest examples of human engravings and early human habitat. These petroglyphs help us watch the course of change in human life thousands of years ago. The placement of these Petroglyphs in 31 archaeological sites with an area of over 50 square kilometers has brought an unmatched museum in the heart of the region. Qeydu and Mazayen are the oldest remains of the petroglyphs in Teymareh.

The carved figures in Teymareh are sometimes abstract and sometimes real and include specific divisions as follows:
 

• Animal figures such as Goats (more than other motifs are available in these rocks, especially male goats with very large and drawn horns), Canidae, Feliformia, horses, Dromedary, Ovis, fish, tiger, cow, Birds like Stork, Hoopoes, and Partridge.
   
• Herbal figures such as cedar, pine and wheat cluster. There are also pictures of martial arts, magical dance, pregnant women, camel caravans and people with large hands among them.

It seems that the earlier humans had chosen this communication way to exchange their experiences and thoughts to later generations because these carvings include some facts about livelihoods, hunting, and lifestyle.

• What is the best time to go?

The climate of this area is freezing during winter and hot in the summertime. Hence, the most appropriate time for travel and adventure there is early spring and early autumn.

• Getting there:

In order to reach the Teymareh Petroglyphs, you must go to Khomein city. Then take the Khomein-Golpayegan road in the south of Khomein and after 20 kilometers, you will arrive there.
