Kandovan Rocky Village

Kandovan is one of the three rocky villages in the world and one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the East Azerbaijan province. The houses like beehive shape, which built in the rocks, have become the village's reputation.

Kandovan is an attractive village in the East Azerbaijan province and 60 km southwest of Tabriz city. As a result of the volcanic eruption of Mount Sahand and surrounding mountains, this exciting village created thousands of years ago. Kandovan village houses are stone-built and have a unique architecture that attracts many foreign tourists every year.

There are three rocky villages in the world, the beautiful Cappadocia village in Turkey and the village of Dakota in the United States. Kandovan is the only stone village which people live. Of course, there is another stone village in Iran called Meymand. The people of Kandovan village are mainly farmers and rancher. Of course, the women of this village are created handy-crafts.

Currently, about 117 families live in this village. Due to the Kandovan's location on the Sahand mountain range, this village has a great climate. Due to around the village has many lush meadows, the Kandovan has a lot of nomadic dwellings.

Contrary to the image that many people have from the houses in this village, Kandovan village houses, like each other house, has a living room, bedroom, and kitchen. There are other sections, such as mosques, schools, and baths, which is the largest Karan (it is a volcanic rock that is made up of volcanic eruptions and lava.) in the village belonging to its mosque.
