Shapuri Bridge

The Broken Bridge or Shapuri Bridge is one of the masterpieces of the Sassanid era, which was built at Shapur I.

The Broken Bridge, also known as the Shapuri Bridge, was built during the Sassanid era at the same time as the Falak al-Aflak or Shapur Fort. This ancient bridge was built under Shapur king's order. This bridge was regarded as one of the masterpieces of the Sassanian era architecture in the past. It was the most vital link between the west and the East of Lorestan province to Khuzestan and Ctesiphon. In the past, Broken Bridge was used as a way to cross the caravans and army that went from Susa to Hegmataneh. The length of this bridge is estimated to be about 330 meters at the time of use and based on its remains. The Broken Bridge is considered as one of the largest stone bridges in Iran. The Shapuri Bridge or Broken Bridge was made up of 28 arches and 27 pillars, and today only five of them are protected from natural hazards. The Broken Bridge or Shapuri Bridge of Lorestan was made of rock, Gypsum mortar, and Sarooj.
