Palangan Village

Palangan is a stepped village of Kurdistan Province that is known for its unique architectural style, springs, waterfalls, and fabulous nature.

Palangan Village is a stepped village that lies in a mountainous area of Zhavehrud Rural District, Kurdistan Province. Palangan Village is located at the beginning of Uraman Takht, in the heart of Tangivar valley where a river passes through it. In addition to the marvelous nature of this village, the local customs and culture of people are the other notable attraction of Palangan Village. Currently, about 194 families live in this villag.

• Stepped Architecture
   

The houses that situated on both sides of the river on the hillside have created a stepped architectural style. The roof of the lower house is the yard of the upper house. Indigenous materials such as stone are used in the construction of houses.

• Attractions
   

Palangan castle, historic cemetery, old houses, and the remains of mosques are the attractions of Palangan Village. Palangan castle is placed on the top of the mountain which dates back to the Pre-Islamic period. The river that passes through the village has created an eye-catching view. This river includes the water of twenty springs around in the Tangivar valley.

• Customs

   
  • You will see Kurd nomad during spring and summer who perform local Kurdish music.
     
  • They burn torches or burn fire on the top points of the village to celebrate Nowruz during early March.
     
  • Fall and winter is the off-time of local people. During this period you will see local entertainments such as horse riding, play with a mace.
     
  • Hel Paraki is a local dance that performs in the wedding ceremonies or any other times in the Palangan Village.
     
  • Grilled fish, Dolma, Ash-e doogh, are a famous and delicious local food of this village. You can have a yummy taste of grilled fish with vegetables next to the river.

There is a boarding house in Palangan Village. Staying in local houses or camping are the other choices.

• What is the best time to go?
   

Kurdistan province has a mountainous climate with mild spring and summer. You will experience a cold winter in Palangan Village. If you want to visit Palangan Village, travel from early May until early October. Remember, during late April until late May you will see the best view of nature in this village.

  Palangan village is located in Zhavehrud Rural District, the Central District of Kamyaran County, Kurdistan, Iran. You can reach there via private car or public transportation such as a taxi and bus.
