Semeskandeh Wildlife Refuge

In Iran, areas are considered as wildlife refuges. One of these areas in Sari is called Semeskandeh.

There is a wildlife refuge in Sari called Semeskandeh. This refuge is located 10 kilometers southeast of Sari city. This lush area is made up of numerous plant and animal species. Significant plant species include European hornbeam, Parrotia, alder, raspberry, and Gleditsia. Principal animal species include Persian fallow deer, Red deer, Roe deer, pheasant and Bird of prey, jackal, Jungle cat, squirrels, European pine marten, eagles, owls, pigeons, and wolves.

  Sari is one of the great cities in the north. This city has many tourist attractions except Semeskandeh Wildlife Refuge.

  • Saat Square (Time square):

    There is a big square in the center of Sari town that you will pass next to it if you travel to this city. This square has a tower that is an analog Clocks with Church bell.

    Miankaleh Wetland is one of the significant wetlands of northern Iran. This wetland hosts migratory birds each year. Miankaleh wetland is very suitable for bird watching. If you are planning on going to this wetland, the best season is late fall and early winter. Just ahead of this wetland, there is a relatively pristine beach that we suggest you go there after watching the Miankaleh birds.

  • Dasht-e-Naz protected area:

    This refuge is the habitat and breeding ground for Persian fallow deer. Dasht-e Naz is an eye-catching and attractive area for wildlife enthusiasts. If you like to visit this spectacular attraction, it is best not to go there in the spring as the deers are getting pregnant and having a baby, and the refuge closes for a short time.
    
     
• What is the best time to go?
  The sari has a temperate and humid climate due to its location between mountains, forests and the sea. The climate of this city is almost cold and dry in winter. We recommend making sure it is open before going to wildlife refuge areas. Because in some months these areas are closed to people due to mating and pregnancy of animals.

• Getting there?
  It is just only a 20 minute away from Sari to this wildlife. You must pass Emma Reza Boulevard and Hula Street to reach this area. In the end, you must drive on the dirt road for one kilometer to reach this tourist attraction.
