Mausoleum of Attar of Nishapur

Attar of Nishapu is one of the famous poet and gnostic of Persia. Mausoleum of Attar of Nishapuris located among a fabulous garden in Nishapur, Razavi Khorasan Province.

The history of this Mausoleum refers to the Timurid Empire. It was restored in the Pahlavi era. Attar lived about 700 years ago in Nishapur. This tomb is located in Shadiyakh, the recreational-tourist area of Nishapur.14th April is celebrated as the commemoration of Attar. Some special activities take place on this day, such as reading poetry and Calligraphy. Literary works of Attar are as follows:
Tazkirat al-Awliya, Mantiq-ut-Tayr, Asrar-Nama, Ilahi-Nama, and Musibat-Nama.

• Architecture

  • The planning of this Mausoleum is octagonal-shaped with an onion-shaped dome. This marvelous two-shelled dome is the most eye-catching part of the Mausoleum. You face Islamic ornamentation, including tiles with geometric patterns. Moreover, some inscriptions on the Kufic line with the colors yellow, green, and white under the dome make it glorious. There are entrances, but the main entrance is situated on the northern side of the Mausoleum.
     
  • Also, the interior part of this tomb is octagonal-shaped. This part includes four Shah-neshin with ornamentation such as Mosaic tiles, Vault, and Stucco.

  Late April until early July is the best time to visit Nishapur and enjoy the beauties of there.
