This airport was the first airport in Tehran to handle 13 million passengers in the year. This large number is a good indication of the importance of this airport in Iran's aviation industry. All international flights transferred from Mehrabad Airport to Imam Khomeini Airport in 2007 and no international flights (except Hajj flights) have been made from this airport since then.
The Imam Khomeini Airport is the largest national aviation complex, with a large number of domestic and international flights have made from there. Imam Khomeini International Airport can be considered the center of international travel in Iran. This airport has one available terminal and two under construction terminals.
